As I looked around the room (or the meeting) I found a whole colony of artists who love to create art for community. Heading up this group or the spokesman for Open Paint Day, Jim Fuchs shared his thoughts on why he loves to create art.
"I started to paint in 1969 after my daughter was born, because I needed an enjoyable activity, while I was taking care of my daughter, and later daughters. I took night classes and workshops in various media. Starting out in oil, then acrylic, afterwards watercolor and collage. Painting models or still life’s in studios or plein air, working in various paint styles, a particular artist’s style of painting, abstract or realism, cubism and geometric, exact details or Impressionistic shading.
After all that I settled on acrylics as my medium. Today I look for subjects to paint in my expansive supply of photos from my life. Jim's website: Joachimfuchsartist.comI had joined the Sugar Land Art League about 18 years ago to associate with other artists. The part that was missing was a regular time and location to get together working on one’s art. When I mentioned that to one of the members at an event, she told me about the Fort Bend Art League’s Tuesday Open Paint Day. In closing I just want to tell new members:”You don’t know what you’re missing, if you haven’t joined us at the Open Paint Day on Tuesdays at 10:30. I want to invite everyone to Open Paint Day. We become so much better with community”
Next month I'll share the thoughts of some of the others that regularly paint with Open Paint Day.
