As always, there is a lot going on here at ALFB. If you want to get plugged in make sure to volunteer for any one of some of the upcoming events we have scheduled. We need extra volunteers for the upcoming book signing for a start. That is also small business Saturday and we anticipate being crowded.
On December 3, ALFB will be hosting Breakfast in the Bend with the chamber of commerce and we could sure use extra hands for that event. If you can help out, please let Nina Struthers know.
The first Saturday in December, Rosenberg will be having a big Christmas season kick off and again there should be a large crowd of guest dropping by and we would love to have you there to great them and make them feel welcome.
Just for fun, we are going to have our annual members Christmas party organized by our wonderful event planner, Ellie Damiano. The sock exchange was such a hit last year, we are doing it again and it will be on December 16 starting at 10. Bring a wrapped pair of socks costing $20 or less to join in the fun. There will be refreshments too.
Don’t forget our upcoming amazing workshops with world renowned instructors. Elizabeth St. Hilaire in January, Nola Heidbreder the end of February and for our painters, make sure to check out the Vie Dun Har workshop.
Till next time,

What is art and why do we make art? Why is it relative to the social context of our time? Art is made for many reasons: expression, aesthetics, personal calling, record keeping, connection, inspiration, therapy, or evolution. Leonardo Da Vinci was curious about the world and as a kinetic response to this curiosity he was always observing, inventing and drawing. His art process was a tool for recording and understanding his observations from the world. Da Vinci's art had an evolutionary purpose that has been used for centuries to teach art students. This past week I asked two members why they make art - here are their responses:
Lynette McQueen works with Zentangle and Mixed Media: I view art as an extension of what you let people see. I love the challenging aspect of art and I love how fun it is.
Diana Gordon works with paper collage: I've always been involved in art through out my life. I find joy in the process of observing nature, animals, birds to create my compositions. I find it rewarding and relaxing as I go through my process.
