Dr. Esther Delaquis-Baidoo
Dr. Delaquis-Baidoo is a Professor of Visual Arts at Houston City College and an exhibiting printmaker and painter whose work has been featured in national and international juried exhibitions across the United States, Europe, and Africa. She holds a Doctor of Education and Leadership & Professional Practice from Trevecca Nazarene University, an MFA in Painting with a minor in Printmaking from Texas Tech University, and a BFA from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Ghana.
With over 15 years of teaching experience at the collegiate level, including graduate-level printmaking, Dr. Delaquis-Baidoo has taught a full range of print processes, from introductory to advanced studio practice. Her work has been included in major exhibitions such as the Los Angeles Printmaking Society National Print Exhibition, PrintHouston, and Authentic Marks International Printmaking Exhibition (Dubai). She is a former board member of PrintMatters Houston.
Her studio practice explores identity, cultural narratives, memory, and social commentary. In her workshops, she emphasizes both technical mastery and conceptual development, guiding artists to create prints that are bisually compelling and intellectually grounded.
Linocut
Introduction to Linocut
In this hands-on workshop, participants will explore the full linocut process from carving to printing using both hand-printing methods and an etching press. The focus is on technical skill-building and achieving bold, high-contrast black-and-white prints.
You will learn:
- Transferring the image onto linoleum block
- Safe carving techniques
- Controlling line weight and texture
- Managing positive and negative space
- Proper inking methods
- Hand-printing techniques without a press
- How to use an etching press for relief prints.
Participants will print using both methods and compare the results. No prior experience necessary.
