Brenda Bowman grew up on a working farm in the Texas panhandle, so she had endless opportunity to study nature, the vast horizon and gorgeous sunsets. Nature plays a dominant role in the creation of her art. She has always been drawn to the fluidity of water media, the look and feeling of a loose style and sophisticated abstract paintings.
With no formal art training in her youth, she (at 50) set her sights on a beginning watercolor class and took lessons for a few short months. Grandchildren arrived, and Brenda enthusiastically embraced another art form -scrapbooking for each of her six grandchildren while continuing to work full time. After retiring from a rich career in the healthcare and nonprofit worlds, she began to take workshops and art classes in 2015. She joined the Art League of Fort Bend and discovered other souls with a clear desire to create, and a multitude of opportunities to continue to learn. Her love of paint, paper and all things “artsy” combined, and a mixed media style emerged.
Brenda has won numerous awards in local and regional art competitions. She has created commissioned works for private collections. Whether using acrylics and mixed media, photography, encaustics or watercolor, Brenda is an intuitive artist, letting the spirit of the art process lead the way. Her works are displayed in the gallery of the Fort Bend Art Center.
She currently serves as President of the Art League of Fort Bend.
