Statement of Intention regarding Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, and Inclusion:

At the Art League of Fort Bend, we recognize that Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, and Inclusion (DEAI) are essential and interconnected principles that form the foundation of a thriving artistic community.

This statement reflects our ongoing commitment to cultivating a welcoming and inclusive environment where individuals of all backgrounds, abilities, and perspectives can engage with and contribute to the arts. It serves as a guide for our culture and as a measure of accountability for our decisions, actions, and initiatives in pursuit of our mission to be a vibrant cultural hub. Our other organizational policies further support the core values of DEAI, while committees within the League will continue to explore these values with greater depth. We aim to foster trust and advocate for the arts through our dedication to these principles, and we commit to revisiting and evolving this statement as society’s understanding of DEAI initiatives grows.

The Art League of Fort Bend embodies diversity by embracing and celebrating the unique perspectives and experiences of our community members, patrons, artists, volunteers, staff, and board members. This diversity is reflected in the variety of artistic styles, media, and subject matter we showcase; in our programming that serves individuals of all ages and abilities; and in the inclusivity of our exhibitions, collections, and public engagements.

We implement equity by honoring and respecting the language and identities of those we serve across all forms of communication, including our exhibitions, educational programming, and advocacy efforts. We are committed to providing equitable access to opportunities in the arts, ensuring that programs are designed to be inclusive of all abilities.

We promote accessibility by making sure that our physical spaces are welcoming and accommodating to all visitors. Our programs are available across multiple platforms, ensuring that everyone has the chance to participate, regardless of physical, sensory, or technological barriers. This includes accessible hiring practices, diverse recruitment of volunteers and board members, and proactive engagement through our website, social media, and public exhibitions.

Inclusion is at the heart of our mission, and we strive to remove barriers to participation—whether they are financial, physical, or perceived. We are committed to providing a space where everyone feels welcome and valued. Through ongoing feedback, collaboration with diverse artists and organizations, and a commitment to offering free and accessible programming, the Art League of Fort Bend continues to uphold its belief that art should be for everyone.
