ABOUT THE CLASS

BEGINNER RUG HOOKING

Do you know that traditional rug hooking is the only original North American craft as all others immigrated from other countries?

To be more specific, New England and the Canadian provinces were the birth place to traditional rug hooking. Our early settlers were the first to upcycle and reuse everything they possessed including clothing too worn to wear and feed sacks. These they turned into colorful and whimsical rugs for cold cabin floors.

Today traditional rug hooking is created by people all over the world and has become an art form in itself. This is not latch hook.

In class, you will have opportunity to try different frames and hoops in addition to learning about all the equipment used as you “hook” your first piece. Each student will be hooking a 12 x 12 traditional Hit ‘n Miss from their unique bag of wool strips. Color and value as it relates to rug hooking will also be covered along with final finishing.

At the end of this workshop, you will be equipped to move forward to your next piece in rug hooking. Warning: rug hooking has been known to be addictive.
